Gratitude

Anna Wade – For all that she has done at Boomtown not only in helping us as a family to return there and talk about El, year after year … but also for the incredible amount of hard work she has put into the drugs awareness education on the Boomtown website (so much better than Ask Frank) and for bringing in the Loop. A Super-babe who has never touched a drug in her life, working tirelessly for the safety of those who do – without judgement.

The core Glastonbury Yoga Team – the ones who turn up for practice each morning, who keep the yoga classes going all through the day, on time, all day, every day throughout every Glastonbury Festival. Who might even on occasion help me roll up the carpets when it rains!

Saskia Kent at Boomtown – Saskia was El’s `Gaia Mother’ and continues to inhabit her role with unalloyed dedication. I see Saskia as our protector. Boomtown could be a scary place – but as long as I know that Saskia is pounding the fields engaging people in meaningful and insightful conversations about El, life, ketamine, the universe and everything – we feel safe.

Steph, Kim and Bindi – Just a typical quiet moment in our tent at the back of the Yoga tent, Glastonbury Festival … we are bound to eternity by our love of El. We are the ones who refuse to curl up  and die (tempting though it is sometimes …).

Saskia Hopping and Jemel at the Green Gathering, 2019 – which is forever sacred in my mind as it was the last gathering we (myself, El and Bindi) went to, on the weekend before El died. I found Saskia and Jemel doing some Acro-Yoga in the Yoga tent. I wanted to put their picture in the book as an example of the beautiful ways in which Yoga has infiltrated every aspect of society – but alas, there wasn’t room. So here they are.

Cuthbert the Snake – Again, it would have been nice to have had Cuthbert the corn-snake and his lovely owner in the book … no space there, but gratitude here! Though I am not keen on snakes, they are magnificent creatures.

Laura McDonald at Bikram – Laura is a superb Bikram teacher and practitioner. I was terrified of Bikram when I started – nearly four years ago now – but Laura’s considerate approach to this challenging practice has made it a joy.
Laura Nicholls in Paschimottanasana. For her love of cats.

Jane Sleven – Jane is an example to us all as to how age will not wither the Yogini spirit. She is indefatigable and will find a creative solution to every apparent problem.
Chloe Mercer – For being a Yoga Goddess, present for us at all the Green Gatherings since El died … with all her beauty, sincerity and courage.
Helen O’Sullivan of Lahinch yoga studio
Helen Rich O’Sullivan and her daughters Milly, Siabh and Ellsie (and not forgetting the unpictured James): for giving us (myself, Iona and Bindi) the impromptu time and space at her yoga studio in Lahinch, Co. Clare, to finish the manuscript by the deadline.  Their generosity and exuberance are beyond words.
Pansy & Brian – My parents, walking the Ridgeway when they were younger, celebrated sixty years of marriage when they were slightly older … I am so grateful for their unique brand of hands-off parenting.
